My Compass uses a sailboat metaphor for navigating life. Students will explore their strengths, thoughts, emotions, and values to help them cope with stressful situations. The program is taught as a class and includes unit content activites as well as activities for students to complete between units to practice in real-life situations.

Each My Compass unit covers new information and builds on previous lessons. Units use a mix of interactive activities, self-reflection, and real-world applications.

The Sailboat

Learn about the sailboat metaphor, a framework used throughout the program to help students explore thoughts, feelings, stressors, and abilities.

Focus on Your Sails – Enhancing Strengths

Students will enhance their strengths and unlock new tools to help make the most of them.

Mastering Attention

Learn how our attention works, why we focus on negative things, and how to focus on the positive.

Session 4

The Power of Thoughts

Learn about the link between thoughts and feelings, and tools for positive thinking.

Session 5

Focus on Your Compass, Part 1 – Identifying Emotions

Students discover and understand their emotions and learn strategies for regulating them in stressful times.

Session 6

Focus on Your Compass, Part 2 – Regulating Emotions

Learn and practice mindfulness tools and techniques for regulating emotions.

Session 7

Values, Motivation, and Purpose

Students identify and reflect on their own values and how they may affect their daily functioning.

Session 8

Coping With Rough Weather

Students explore techniques of coping with life stress and look at how they personally cope.

Session 9

Your Fleet – The Interpersonal Network

Students learn how to build and maintain their interpersonal network and manage conflict using effective communication techniques.

Session 10

My Resilience Plan

Reflect on growth throughout the program and begin creating a resilience plan for students to use this semester and going forward.
