About My Compass
My Compass is designed to help build resilience skills to handle the challenges of life, especially during times of transition.
Program Overview
My Compass is a program to enhance well-being for anyone especially when they are approaching or going through a transition time such as graduating high school, attending college, or beginning a new job.
The program addresses:
Building connections
Regulating emotions and reframing thoughts
Using mindfulness in everyday life
The lessons use science-based practices from positive psychology as well as cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and acceptance and commitment principles adapted for a class setting.
How does the Program Work?
My Compass includes 10 facilitator-led units. Each unit centers on different strategies for navigating transitions and builds on lessons from the previous sessions.
This website supplements the in-class content. Only students completing the program in a class can log in to the website. Once logged in, students can view content, resources, and assignments. They can track their progress by earning badges for completing bridge activities.
My Compass is designed to help students build resilience skills through different activities. During the facilitator-led class content, students can expect mindfulness activities like breathing exercises and guided imagery, brief presentation of concepts, and time to self-reflect on topics.
Students will have brief practice exercises to complete that help reinforce skills learned from class content and prepare students for upcoming units.
My Compass encourages students to have meaningful conversations with family members, other trusted adults or peers, especially those a couple years older. Parents or other trusted adults/peers can expect to participate in brief discussions as part of the students’ assignments. These discussions will help students plan for their future.
