My Resilience Plan
Overview
- This unit includes a final mindfulness moment opportunity using a classmate’s script. You’ll have time to reflect on the mindfulness activities you’ve completed throughout the program.
- In this unit, you are asked to reflect on the lessons learned throughout this program and tie them together with the concept of resilience. Using the captain’s four key factors, you’ll create a resilience plan that can serve as a valuable resource as you move on from this program.
- This unit’s bridge exercises are optional to help you complete activities from Session 10. You’re encouraged to complete them because they’ll help build the bridge between the program and your life beyond this class.
Unit 10 focuses on resilience to tie the lessons from this program together and celebrating the work and energy you have put into the program.
Bridge Exercises
Why This Matters: Understanding resilience is only half the battle. Having a plan can be helpful when things get tough. A captain’s plan should be flexible and provide reminders of the things that help anchor you during stressful situations.
With the understanding of the captain’s four key elements and their relationship to resilience, you started to create a resilience plan during unit 10.
If you didn’t finish your resilience plan during unit 10, you can do so now.
Why This Matters: A collage that illustrates who a captain is to you is a physical reminder of the lessons learned in this program. Your collage brings your captain to life.
You started your captain collage early in the program. Since then, you’ve learned a lot about what captains may experience at sea and the skills they need to reach their destinations. In Unit 10, you revisited your captain collage with that new information. The values you see in your captain may have changed or remained the same; either way, capturing those values visually is a helpful way to reflect on what’s important to you.
Continue working on the captain collage until you feel that it’s ready for ongoing use. Use it to remind yourself of what’s important to you and some of the skills you worked on in this program.

Finish completing your captain collage in your student guide.
- Use the notes you took in Unit 10 to finish your captain collage.
- Use craft materials or your computer to find images or draw images yourself.
Why This Matters: Quotes from songs, movies, people you look up to, historical figures, or celebrities about resilience can remind you that everyone is human. Nobody is immune to the stressors of life — even the captains who seem like they have it all together.
- Use a notebook or digital document to write quotes from songs, movies, or other media that are examples of having resilience. Write any important lessons you can take from them.
